Who are You?
My name is Peter Bennett, I’m an English guy in Los Angeles. I’ve performed on stage playing many instruments – drums, guitar, harmonica, bass but now my primary focus is singing with a rich and powerful baritone voice well suited to ‘Songs of the Golden Age’
What’s your musical style?
I perform songs from the Great American Songbook – that collection of songs from the Golden Age of Broadway and Hollywood, written by masters such as Richard Rogers, Oscar Hammerstein, Cole Porter, George Gershwin and so on. I also provide variety with songs by Elvis Presley, Country Classics and a selection of boleros in Spanish – romantic ballads from Central America, as made famous by Pedro Infante and Luis Miguel.
Why might that style of music be right for my event?
All my material has been ‘road tested’ by audiences of seniors and meets their needs for entertainment including the emotional release of romantic and inspiring ballads and the energizing power of rock and roll and other dance oriented material.
What’s the reason you perform the songs you do?
I love to bring joy to people living in institutions of various kinds – my work creates a shared experience within those communities, and helps to bring those communities together. The music itself is a reminder of great times in the past and is performed with such gusto and emotionality it has a profound effect on most audience members including people of compromised abilities.
What experience do you have?
I have a lifetime in music covering a huge range of musical styles – playing drums in pop/rock/punk bands and moving on to singing and playing guitar and harmonica in a range of soul/rhythm and blues/blues bands. My more recent experience was gained capitalizing on my talent for bringing the best out of classic Songs of the Golden Age.
What makes you different?
It’s much less common nowadays to hear a singer with a resonant ‘full voice’ – think of Sinatra, Howard Keel, Robert Goulet, Mario Lanza and also more modern artists such as Josh Groban – I can deliver those great songs in the style they were mostly created for and deliver it to those who can remember and enjoyed it. Another specific difference is my performance of great Central American songs in Spanish which has proved a bit hit not just with Spanish speaking members of the audience but also staff members and visitors.
What types of events do you perform at?
Day time music shows, Candle-Lit Dinners, Special Events – Halloween, Independence Day, Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas (Holiday) Celebrations, Birthday Shows.
